Darlington County Disabilities & Special Needs Board

Angel Tree 2009

Happy Holidays from the Darlington County Disabilities and Special Needs Board (DCDSNB)!  We reach out every year to the community for help with our annual Angel Tree project during the Holiday season.  Without the help of gracious donors, many of our special angels would not receive any gifts.

Here at DCDSNB, we provide services to individuals of all ages with autism, head and spinal cord injury, intellectual and related developmental disabilities in Darlington County.  Every year, we place cards for our special angels on Christmas trees in the community for adoption.  Due to current economic conditions, we anticipate a poor response this year.  Not all of our special angels will be adopted so we turn to community businesses / organizations and citizens for their support.  Last year, economic conditions were in decline and without the help of the community, several of our special angels would not have received any gifts.  Unfortunately, local economic conditions are worse this year.  In addition, our organization has sustained large budget cuts from the state level and expect another cut soon.

We are asking you for your support of our angels by making a tax-deductible donation to our 2009 Angel Tree project before Friday, December 18.  There is a link to a form below for you to fill out if you are interested in becoming a Benevolent Business Angel to our special angels this season.  Some businesses or departments may choose to adopt one or more angels and purchase the gifts on their own.  If you prefer this option, please contact us and we will send you an Angel Tree card for your requested number of angels.  Each Angel Tree card lists a few of the needs, wants, and / or interests of the individual.

If you would like to help in addition to a donation or adoption or prefer not to donate, perhaps you will consider hosting an Angel Tree for us.  If you so choose, we will visit your location and arrange the Angel Tree cards on your tree or, if necessary, provide and set up an Angel Tree during the first week of December.  We ask only that you serve as a collection point for the unwrapped gifts and provide secure storage until we can collect the gifts for distribution.  We may call occasionally to check the status of the tree and pickup gifts as needed.

The support of the community will help put smiles on the faces of many children and adults with special needs in our community during the 2009 Holiday Season.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Carrie Chenard at 332-7252 ext. 101 or Jarmiller Moses at 332-7252 ext. 115.
